So you let yourself be suckered in by the charm of the city and the wicked words of estate agents in London and have ended up moving here. There’s no doubt that staying in London can be a pricey business, but owing to the size of the city and its overwhelming population of down and out students and other less than flush with cash residents there’s always plenty to do here that won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
One source of free entertainment that should be obvious to those who have taken a bit of time to explore the heart of the city is Covent Garden Piazza. As the only area in London that’s licensed for street entertainment, Covent Garden Piazza attracts everything from musicians to fire breathers, all of whom had to pass an audition to perform on the Piazza. An afternoon of entertainment here will also only set you back the tube fare to get there.
Or will it? Maybe not if you take advantage of the London Cycle Hire Scheme! For a mere pound (less than a cup of coffee in most places) you can hire out one of ‘Boris’s bikes’ for the day and take a cycle tour around the city. You’re still charged an hourly fee, mind you, so don’t get too carried away unless you want to end up with a hefty bill!
What about checking out some British history? The Museum of London is free to enter and will take you on a journey from Roman times up until present day, describing each facet of London’s history in fascinating detail. History not your thing? How about something a bit more creative? The Tate Modern and Tate Britain both offer free entry and are some of the most exceptional art galleries in the country.
How about a spot of tea on the lawn? Nip to your local supermarket and cobble together some cucumber sandwiches before retiring to the lush lawns of Hampstead Heath or Holland Park for a cheap restitution from London’s bustling concrete jungle.
London is one of those destinations that must absolutely be visited and it’s no surprise it comes top on most people’s wish list of places to see. England’s capital is notorious for the variety of its attractions, the ridiculous amount of things there are to be done, as well as an extremely distinctive and exciting lifestyle. However, there are countless guidebooks that will tell you the most popular tourist attractions the city has, however, there are still so many undiscovered attractions that remain overlooked.
If you’ve ever been or you have read a guide book about London, you will no doubt have read about the iconic buildings such as Big Ben, the London Eye or the Queens residence at Buckingham Palace, as well as the fantastic open spaces London is home to. Such as Hyde Park or London Zoo. Don’t be fooled that London only has these attraction on offer.
